The meeting will take place at the historic Monte Verità conference center on the Swiss alps overlooking Lago Maggiore. Participants will be housed on site and all meals will be provided at the conference center.

Monte Verità can be reached most easily from Locarno (Switzerland), which is well connected to Zurich airport by train. It is also possible to arrive by car or bus from Italy. We will provide free transport from Locarno to the conference center on the arrival and departure day. Below you find further information.

Arrival and Departure Times

Participants are expected to arrive on Sunday, Januray 7th, before 4.30pm. Departure will be on Saturday, January 13th in the morning, after breakfast.

Airports close to Ascona/Locarno

The airport which is best connected to Locarno is Zurich airport (ZRH). Other nearby airports are Milan Linate (LIN) and Malpensa (MXP), Geneva (GVA) and Basel (BSL). From there you can reach Locarno by train. In general, the connections across the Swiss-Italian border are less frequent and capillar than those within Switzerland.

Please note also that the public transport connections from the local airport in Lugano (LUG) to the conference venue are generally less convenient than the ones from Zurich or Geneva. Generally, we recommend that you fly to Zurich and take the train from there.

From Zurich to Locarno

If you fly to Zurich Airport, take a train from the airport to Zurich Hauptbahnhof (main station). Trains leave every few minutes from the train station just beneath the main airport building and take ten minutes.

At Zurich main station you should take a train to Bellinzona (in the direction of Lugano, Chiasso or Milano); trains leave at intervals of 30, 60 or 90 minutes, depending on the time of day.

In Bellinzona change to the local train S20 to Locarno; trains leave every 30 minutes.

From Switzerland (and surroundings) to Locarno

If you are based in Switzerland or not far from the border, it might be convenient to reach Locarno by (international) train. You can easily arrange your travel using the Swiss Railways (SBB) website. Note that international train tickets are much cheaper if bought in advance; furthermore, special discounts sometimes apply for young travellers.

From Locarno to the Conference Centre

On the arrival day, Sunday, January 7, we will arrange a shuttle bus service from the Locarno train station to the conference center. It will depart at 13:30, 14:10, 15:00, 15:40, 16:30, 17:10. It will operate on a first-come, first-serve basis. Sharing a taxi among four participants is another simple and relative cheap option. For further information, please see this link. On the departure day, Saturday, January 13, we will also organise a shuttle-bus service.
